Soccer and Netball Schools
These are four day long schools but many have weekend activities, including a ‘coaches vs parents’ game and a Sunday Soccer Awards Service. Boys and girls of all abilities are welcome and coaching is given from experienced players, many of which hold the F.A. level one coaching certificate. We have soccer games and competitions and fun games in our programme. There is a daily bible time which helps to develop the moral and spiritual aspects of the child’s life.
We teach good sportsmanship principles and fair play. Each young person is in a team of about seven other players. There are two coaches per team, so there is plenty of time and space for relationships to build, discussions to develop, and team spirit to grow! The week culminates with a ‘World Cup’ between teams, which parents and families can come and support; it always proves to be a highlight.
We run approximately 14 soccer schools each year. Most are in the UK but sometimes a soccer school will form part of an overseas tour or mission. We take groups of up to 100 children (age 7 – 14) usually over school holiday periods. We also run shorter 'soccer clinics' in the evenings where it is appropriate to do so. Each Soccer School lasts between 2 and 5 days, depending on the location, and is a mixture of FA coaching, fitness, skills work, games and bible teaching. We endeavour to keep costs down to a minimum, making it available to all children.
James became a Christian at soccer school when he was twelve. He said, "I had a great week and made new friends, but it was more than that, because the message of Jesus became real to me and was something I wanted for myself, so I asked Him into my life."
A letter from a church leader; “I just felt I had to write and thank you again for the soccer school you kindly ran…To see the community coming together in such a way was brilliant. I have nothing but positives coming my way about the style of coaching, the attitude of everybody and the way children who could hardly kick a ball, were treated the same as those who could. The fact that at least two children gave their hearts to the Lord made it all the more worthwhile.
Soccer schools are linked with local churches wherever possible, so that young people can find fellowship and support when the week is over.
