Congratulations to Longton CCFC

Champions Cup Winners 2013/14

  • Longton 5 – 0 Fulwood:

Longton CCFC ran out worthy winners against Fulwood FMFC and completed the League and Cup double at the Champions Cup Final held at the Giant Ax Stadium, Lancaster on Tuesday 18th March.

A tight first half ended with Longton 1-0 up after a great strike from Tom Wright 9 minutes into the game.  An early goal in the second half (another class finish from Tom Wright) broke Fulwoods resolve and although they never gave up, Longton continued to press and scored 3 more late on, to win 5-0.

Man of the match award went to Longtons Dave Sharp who also scored 2 excellently taken goals and he was only denied completing his hat-trick by the post in the last few seconds of the game.  Special mentions to Tom Wright with his 2 goals and to Nathan McManus, Fulwoods goalkeeper, who pulled off some fantastic saves.

Thank you to everyone who came and supported and to all the officials, ball boys and players.

Andy Thomas from Capernwray delivered a powerful message prior to the game asking the same question Pilate asked as he tried Jesus before handing Him over to be crucified.

“Pilate said to them, “What then shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?”  They all said to him, “Let Him be crucified!”  Matthew 27:22

What then will you do with Jesus?
