SPORTSREACH MENS 5ASIDE LEAGUE

The first week of fixtures in 2018 gave us the biggest game of the season so far, with Crown Lane needing at the very least a draw against Wray to take the title challenge right to the end of the season.  Wray started strongly and had the upper hand in the first half, with Crown Lane being fortunate to only be 2 – 1 down at half time.  In the second half it was a very tight affair with both teams cancelling each other out for much of the time, but with 8 minutes to go Dan Parkinson managed to turn his man and fire a low shot into the side netting to bring the scores level.  Both teams pushed and as it looked like it was heading for a draw, Martin Huddleston managed to get a winner for Wray, from the tightest of angles.  Crown Lane now need a couple of teams to do them a favour if they are to catch Wray.  In the other early game Galgate were looking to get back to winning ways against a Chipping team who are having their best season to date.  The first time they met this season Galgate won 3 – 2 and this was another close game.  This time however both teams were more open as they looked to attack more and it played to Galgates advantage with Rob Barker in particular covering a lot of ground and scoring some great goals to take the win for Galgate.

At 9pm Dick Gorst came to speak to us and encouraged us to “believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved”.

In the late games Young Guns were up against Real VVV and Ingleton were playing Carnforth.  Young Guns have started to get into their stride now and with a very strong team out, including Joe Atkinson who was back from Uni, they were just too strong for VVV and won their 4th game in the last 5.  Ingleton have been on a difficult run recently and with 5 new players signed up on the night, they were hoping to get back to winning ways.  The first half was very tight with the teams going in level at 2 – 2 but Carnforth being unfortunate not to be ahead.  In the second half everything clicked for Ingleton and with the pace of James Lawson, George Whitaker and Matt Parker, they started opening up Carnforth.  Carnforth chasing to get themselves back into the game became more and more vulnerable to the counter attack as Ingleton finished clinically.  Special mention must go to Jason ‘Hatrick’ Hettrick who managed to grab himself 3 goals as well.

Results:

Crown Lane 2 – 3 Wray

Galgate 8 – 5 Chipping

Ingleton 16 – 4 Carnforth

Young Guns 8 – 5 Real VVV
