On the last night of the 2017/18 5aside season, most of the positions had been decided, but there was one game in particular that could leave the winning team moving up a couple of places in the league as Chipping took on Carnforth.

Chipping started the more lively and created a couple of early chances, but it was Carnforth who took the lead as Tom Harrison scored on the break after a Chipping corner was cleared upfield to him.  Chipping continued to have more of the ball and Tyler Davidson, playing in goals for Carnforth made a string of great saves, even managing to save one shot that seemed to be behind him and going into the bottom corner as he clawed it round the post.  Chipping did however manage to equalise just before half time through a well placed finish from Joe Kelsall.  Into the second half and Chiiping scored early as Dan Parkinson got behind the Carnforth defence and scored via a post.  Carnforth started to get more of the ball as the game went on and as they chased an equaliser and hit the woodwork 3 times, but couldn’t find that crucial goal.  Chipping Jump two places to their best ever finish of 6th place and a total of 20 points.  Carnforth themselves had their best season finishing two places lower with 19 points.

In the other early game Real VVV took on Crown Lane.  Crown Lane already had runner-up confirmed and were up against a VVV team that were low on confidence after a tough run in, playing all the top teams in the past few games.  Crown Lane started as they often do, attacking at pace and looking to give the opposition the runaround.  Luke Parkinson in particular was on form as he twisted and turned his opponents inside out.  Crown Lane took a 10 – 1 lead into half time, but credit to VVV who dug in and defended well in the second half and only con conseeded 3 more goals.

Dan Parkinson shared with us at 9pm.  He told us that Easter is all about Jesus and explained why Jesus needed to come.  Dan shared how the ‘wages’ of our sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus.  He explained how even if we don’t yet live for Jesus, we can, and he encouraged us to make that step of following Jesus.

There was just one late game as Young Guns had a tough test against Galgate.  Joel Law scored early for Young Guns as they took control in the first half.  As the game went on Galgate upped their tempo and with Craig Cottam, Jake Fawcett and Rob Barker all getting goals, they were making life difficult for Young Guns.  Young Guns however always had their noses in front and the final goal of the game and of the league season came from Richard Preece, to confirm the win and give Young Guns their 7th win in a row.

Results:

Real VVV 1 – 13 Crown Lane

Chipping 2 – 1 Carnforth

Young Guns 9 – 6 Galgate
