The third week of the 5aside league brought some great games, particularly in the early fixtures.  Wray who were top of the league, were up against Garstang, who were bottom and hadn’t scored in their first 2 games.  First half and Wray were comfortable, taking a 3 – 0 score into halftime.  But into the second half and Garstang sprung to life.  Dre scoring their first goal of the season and he got another soon after.  Garstang again were very reliant on Andrew Tissingh in goals, but they battled hard to take Wray close.  The final score was 6 – 4 to Wray with Martin Huddleston getting 4 of Wray’s goals.  The other early game was between a much changed Chipping team and a Crown Lane team that turned up with only 4 players.  The Crown Lane lads were really up for it and worked tirelessly in the first half, closing down Chipping and creating a handful of chances and managing to take 2 of them.  Into the second half and Crown Lane soon added a third goal through Oliver Parkinson (2nd of game).  Chipping started to move the ball around a bit quicker and as Crown Lane started to tire, Chipping scored straight from a corner, from Jake Fawcett.  This gave Chipping the encouragement to push on and with 3 minutes to play, they managed to pull level.  The game could have gone either way in the last couple of minutes, but it was Crown Lane who took the win, with the last action of the game.  They committed men forward and the ball fell to Daniele Giannoccaro who hit the ball with his trusted left foot into the bottom right corner of the goal.  It was a cruel end for Chipping, who deserved more.  But for Crown Lane it was a huge win!

Andrew Tissingh spoke at 9pm and talked about the verse where Jesus says “Behold I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me.”  What a wonderful and personal thing for Jesus to say to you and I.  Andrew shared a story from his childhood, about trying to do things his own way and talked about how we are often like that with God.  We try to go in our own direction, even those who are followers of Jesus still sometimes do things their own way.  Andrew encouraged us to take up that invitation that Jesus gives us all.

In the late games Roeburndale Rascals were in dominant form against Ingleton with Will Preece and James Lawson scoring 10 goals between them as they ran out 15 -2 winners.  Roeburndale look to be one of the teams to challenge this year and next weeks game against Crown Lane, will show how far they have come.  Newbigginners had 3 new players and looked a different proposition, as they took on Carnforth.  Carnforth had started the season with 2 wins out of 2 and were confident, but were no match for the men from up north!  Dan Hallam was the driving force and kept the ball ticking over and popped up with some key goals.  The pick of the goals came from John Kelsall, who received the ball out wide on the half way line, shimmied past his man on the outside and smashed his shot past the Carnforth keeper from the tightest of angles.
