SPORTSREACH 5ASIDE LEAGUE

In round 6 of the 5aside league, our early games brought Ingleton verses Quernmore and Roeburndale Rascals against Chipping.  Chipping have been playing well without getting the results they deserved and they took the lead through Oscar Foot, but Roeburndale soon started to get on top and led at half time 3 – 2 although two of their goals came via deflections.  Second half and Roeburndale kept things very tight and with Matt Dawson in clinical form they secured a comfortable win, with Matt getting a second half hat trick to add to his first half goal.  Special mention must go to Joe Kelsall who scored the only goal of the second half for Chipping, but it was a goal of the season contender.  The ball was played into Joe from defence, he took a touch to flick it over his head and then on the volley, he smashed it into the far top corner of Roeburndales goal!  In the other game, Ingleton started really strongly scoring 2 early goals.  Quernmore though have started to get a knack for finding a way to win and with Mick Lund scoring 2 screamers, it was them who took a 3 – 2 half time lead.  Second half and things were very tight but Ingleton couldn’t do enough to stop Quernmore from getting their third win of the season and moving up to 4th in the league.  Final score was Quernmore 5 – 3 Ingleton.

At 9pm Dave Lawson shared a message with us.  Dave asked us 2 questions…. What we are living for?  And what music do we like?!  When Dave was younger he used to really be into the Rolling Stones.  Dave told us all about how successful they were and yet their most popular song was titled ‘I can’t get no satisfaction’.  Dave told us of a King who wrote a book, hundreds and hundreds of years ago, saying ‘meaningless, meaningless, everything is meaningless’.  This world offers so much and yet it all leaves us craving something more.  It leaves us empty.  That same King, also wrote that God has given people a burden, which nothing in this world can satisfy.  Only Jesus.  Only when we come to Jesus, can we find something, or Someone, who brings meaning and purpose to our lives.  Dave asked again… What are we living for???

In the late games Capernwray were chasing their first win of the season against top team Wray and Lune Valley Utd were up against an almost full strength Crown Lane.  Capernwray are looking like a really good team especially considering its only 3 weeks since they first met each other!  They started strongly and Wray hardly touched the ball in the first 5 minutes with Capernwray taking the lead.  Wray pulled one back only for Capernwray to go ahead again.  Things were very tight at half time, but as the game went on Wray took advantage and caught Capernwray out a number of times on the break, with Mark Ellershaw scoring 6!  Capernwray have had some tough games, but they will keep improving and they will have easier weeks.  Lune Valley scored first against Crown Lane, but that was as good as it got for them, with Dan and Luke Parkinson, both too much for Lune Valley and scoring 3 goals in 1 minute before half time.  Into the second half and Dan was running the game.  Crown Lane shared out the goals and finished with a 10 – 1 win and currently have the best goal difference.

Results:

Ingleton 3 – 5 Quernmore

Roeburndale Rascals 7 – 3 Chipping

Capernwray 3 – 7 Wray

Lune Valley Utd 1 – 10 Crown Lane
