After having 4 weeks of really close results, week 8 of the SportsReach 5aside league brought some big scores and not so close results!

In the early games Crown Lane were looking to move up to second in the league as they took on Carnforth and Newbigginners who had started to string some good results together, were against Garstang.  Crown Lane came out of the blocks on fire, going into a 5 – 0 lead within 4 minutes.  Carnforth did manage to steady the ship for a while before Crown Lane went in at half time 8 – 1 up.  Second half and much of the same from Crown Lane with them scoring 4 in a 2 minute spell.  Damien Kitching did score a couple for Carnforth, but it was Crown Lane who scored heavily with Keith Townley and Sam Hogarth getting 5 and 6 goals and running out with a big 20 – 5 win.  It was a very similar story for Newbigginners against Garstang.  Garstang were missing some key players and Newbigginners were pushing Carnforth and Capernwray hard to finish in the top 6 before the league splits in 2 after Christmas.  Newbigginners started well, dominating the game with 87% possession in the first half and were 6 – 0 up at half time thanks to goals from David Beecham, Ryan Capstick and Dan Hallam.  At half time Paul Capstick made the tactical decision to bring Sam Gorst out of goal for his first outfield appearance.  It was a brave decision by Paul, but one that paid off as 20 seconds into the second half Sam scored to make it 7 – 0.  Garstang started to get into the game more and got a couple of goals back but Newbigginners were too strong and everything they touched seemed to go in.  Newbigginners are up to 5th and looking really strong after loosing their first 2 games by a combined score of 31 – 3.

At 9pm Sam Hogarth spoke to the teams.  Sam asked us to imagine we were at the doctors and we had a problem which the doctor had been doing tests on.  The doctor comes in and says ‘i’m really sorry, but you have a serious illness and you will die from it.  But I have good news, we have a cure and it works 100% of the time.’  Sam said you would be foolish not to take the treatment that the doctor offered.  The Bible tells us that we all have a serious problem that will lead to death and to Hell, and that is called ‘sin’.  But the Good News is that Jesus has made a way possible that we can be saved from the consequences of sin, if we trust and follow Him, because He took the consequences of sin upon Himself, when He died on the cross.

In the late games Capernwray were looking to build on their great result from last week, as they took on Ingleton and Wray were against Lune Valley Utd.  Capernwray were well organised and started the game quickly again with front players David Kira and Taylor Pederson amongst the goals again.  Ingleton worked hard and managed to hold Capernwray to a 7 – 2 lead at half time, but Capernwray became more free scoring in the second half.  Ingletons young team gave their best with Ryan Whaley and Josh Capstick getting the goals for them, but they couldn’t match Capernwray.  Wray were looking to extent their lead at the top of the league, but didnt have it all their own way as Lune Valley Utd started with a very compact formation and gave little space for Wray to get into in the attacking areas.  It took nearly 10 minutes before Wray did break the deadlock through Martin Huddleston.  Nearly straightaway Lune Valley responded as James Sutton caught Wray on the break and slotted into the corner.  That was about as good as it got for Lune Valley though as Wray started to move the ball around quickly, using the whole pitch and having long periods with the ball as they searched for openings.  Wray took a 4 – 1 lead into half time and were 6 – 1 up before James Sutton scored again to give Lune Valley a glimmer of hope.  Lune Valley were well organised and did hold Wray again for a while before Wray scored with a flurry of goals in the last 3 or 4 minutes.  Wrays goals were shared round with Steven Wright getting 4, Stephen Harrison 2, Martin Huddleston 2, Harry Gorst 2 and Mark Ellershaw 1.

Crown Lane 20 – 5 Carnforth

Newbigginners 19 – 3 Garstang
