SportsReach Netball League 2016/17
Apologies for results etc not being posted for a few weeks! Been busy on a mission trip to Myanmar as well as the SportsReach weekend away south etc! 🙂
The league is swiftly coming to a climax now with only a couple of weeks of matches left before the end of season league meal. Lancaster and Morecambe college was the venue for the games over half term and 5 games took place there this last week. It was great to listen in to some of the messages as they were shared in between the games. One talked of unblocking a sink and how rather than call in a professional plumber, they tried to do the job themselves! Not wanting anyone to see the mess and gunk down the plug hole and not wanting to bother anyone else with the problem they persisted to try to rectify the problem themselves and likened this to how we can be with God sometimes. We all have issues or problems or feelings that we would rather no one else know about, and we all have what the bible calls sin in our lives which we try to ignore, deny or hide from others. We try to deal with it ourself thinking that no one else can help or be bothered with our issues. God wants to help us. He loves us and His son died to deal with our problem of sin, so we can be forgiven and start again. God wants to share our lives and help us to live life to the full.

In division one Diamonds shone and recorded another victory to move closer to TopCats while the Mantawrays v Stingwrays local derby started in somewhat a “STEADY” fashion but burst into life with Manta’s clinching the win, again by a single goal.

With one game being abandoned due to the cold, the other games were certainly full of heat! MereCats turned in another great performance to snatch victory, winning by the odd goal again for the second week running against another Garstang team, this time defeating leaders Sapphires! The race for the division two title is well and truly opened up now as Royals also won to move two points closer to Sapphires with games in hand. In the Capernwray Hall derby, it was the Flames who scorched the wings of the Eagles to take the bragging rights there! With TopCats having sat at the top of the table for almost all of the season, their game against Diamonds was always going to be a title decider. Diamonds triumphed in a close and competitive match to cement first place and all but clinch the title with only a couple of games to go. WildCats have all but secured third place after a win over Swallows. Matches in division two saw Sapphires getting back to winning ways and stretching their lead at the top with an emphatic win over STY:LE. With just one game remaining for them they will be hoping for a favour from the teams Royals have to play in their three remaining games, with the match against MereCats looking to be a pivotal one for the season and where the division two honours will end up.
Westhouse Lightning 32 – 23 Quernmore Rubies;
Chipping TopCats 17 – 26 Garstang Diamonds;
Lancaster Roses 30 – 19 Bluebelles;
Preston Swallows 19 – 36 Chipping WildCats;
Garstang Sapphires 56 – 4 STY:LE:
