Tuesday 27th October
Game three involved an away trip to Rottenmann. We knew it would be a tough game as we had heard that they were Selzthal ladies rebranded whom we played two years ago. (Selzthal have won the Ladies league for several years.)
We received a very warm welcome on a cold yet clear autumn evening and enjoyed good fellowship with some of the team in the clubhouse next door after the game. It was great to be able to give them literature and the Thornton’s chocolate football boots seem to be going down very well! Thank you to Regina for serving us with drinks. J We very much look forward to playing them again next year.
Match report:
Playing on the 3G pitch there, saw us take a little while to get used to the different surface, the speed of the ball and into our stride and as a result we went a couple of goals down within the first ten minutes as Rottenmann started very strongly with some excellent passing moves. It was easy to see how they have been so successful in their league. However, the SportsReach girls dug deep and despite a couple carrying knocks we began to match the other team and were very unfortunate not to get the goals that our play deserved. Zoe (1st half) and Luca (2nd half) made some great saves in goal, gathering the ball rather like cats pouncing on unsuspecting mice! With Sue, Lara and Charlotte strong in defence. Jen covered almost every ‘blade of grass’ (if that’s possible on 3G!) harrying and chasing down the opposition and playing some great through balls for Ruth and Annie to run onto. Vicky was playing (literally!) the holding role in midfield, breaking up play and playing the simple ball to release pressure on the defence. Lizzie and Sarah were great encouragers from the side lines this evening along with Tauernhofs Anna.
A great game to watch and with no more goals from either side Rottenmann ran out 2-0 winners.
Well played again girls.
