SportsReach 3 – 3 Klein Solk

The 2014 SportsReach Austria Tour finished with a tricky game on the small pitch at Klein Solk, a complete contrast to the big pitch we had played on the previous evening!  The game started well with an early goal by Bill and we began to think we would finish the tour in style with a good win.  Klein Solk however had other ideas and as their position in the league, 2nd behind Selzthal and an unbeaten record at home suggested, they were not to be taken lightly!  They hit back and took the lead with a couple of quick goals, one of which was a powerful header which our catlike keeper, Sooty could do little about!  The game became very open with both keepers being kept busy.  Mark Hill had a couple of storming runs and had two shots come back off the woodwork and another kept out with a brilliant save by the Klein Solk keeper.  As we continued to attack a shot was unfortunately turned into his own goal by a Klein Solk player and we went in at half time 2 – 2, much to Graham’s dismay as it put paid to his hopes of being relieved from refereeing and joining the game for the second half with it being so tight.  “A few goals ahead at half time and I will be coming on”, was his threat before the game!!”

The second half began with Klein Solk smelling blood and going all out for a win.  They soon scored and were 3 – 2 ahead.  It was beginning to look as if we were going to lose our last game of the tour as chances continued to be made but not converted, but again as a team we dug deep and eventually we equalised when a Will Marsden shot came back off the post and was followed up by Florian who tapped in the rebound.  The final whistle went and we had managed to complete the tour unbeaten with only fatigue being the reason we were prevented from winning our last two games!

The sharing time afterwards went well with good conversations and the players willingly taking sports bibles and Hans Peters book.  We praise God for the many open doors and opportunities He gave us over our two weeks in Austria.  We pray on that in the days and weeks to come that we will hear of those who find Christ as a result of our conversations but also a s a result of reading the bibles and literature we were able to give them.

For the record we played 9, won 7, drew 2, lost 0, scored 43, conceded 20.

The tenth game we played was the game with the students were we mixed our players and the students and played against each other with 3 – 3 the final result.
