With the fixture list taking a battering from the elements in recent weeks, it was a relief to see three out of four fixtures fulfilled on Saturday – and all high-scoring encounters.
In the league, Longton extended their 100% winning record with an 8-4 victory at Great Ecc, assisted by a quick-fire goal from midfielder Stephen Farrington after just ten seconds. Both sides showed plenty of attacking verve with five players grabbing a brace; Bill Gibbons and Jack Sharples for Great Ecc and Dave Sharp, Danny Stephenson and Gregg Metcalf for Longton.
Elsewhere, two Champions Cup first leg ties were played at the third attempt. Both matches took place on 3G pitches with Fleetwood recording a 5-4 victory at Fulwood in a rollercoaster encounter, whilst Wray overcame Quernmore 3-2 despite the away side taking the lead twice.
Garstang vs Loko, another Champions Cup first leg tie, was called off on Saturday morning. Loko have been awarded a 3-0 win.
