The SportsReach football league has returned this week, with eight teams looking to battle it out this season in search of trophies. Two new teams have entered the league for this season – welcome to Moorlands and Preston City Mission.
Three exciting games have taken place this past week, with Loko kicking the season off with a home game against Lancaster. The opening game of the season was an exciting affair, with Lancaster getting a two goal lead within the first 15 minutes of the game, thanks to Phil Connerton in the 9th minute and then Tom Luxton in the 13th minute. Loko pulled a goal back shortly after half time, with Glen Hanmer netting in the 50th minute.
On Saturday, two games took place, with Preston City Mission making their league debut away at Fulwood. Fulwood blew Preston City Mission away, going in 5 – 1 up at half time. The second half continued in its lively vein, with Fulwood scoring another 6 goals to make it 11-1 before Preston City Mission pulled another back through their captain Daniel Tapciuc from the penalty spot.
The third game to take place was Great Ecc facing Quernmore at home. Great Ecc made a great start, with Tom Sheilds scoring a 25 yard thunderbolt within 2 minutes. The Quernmore team, with many new debutantes, worked hard to try and cut out chances, but the mean Great Ecc defense was having non of it. Although there were many new faces for Quernmore, the team put in a good performance considering many of the players had not played together before – however, 3 times they were undone by Great Ecc’s well worked corners, with Ol Parkinson, Andrew Windsor netting before the break and then Dennis Pulford straight after half time. Great Ecc’s scoring was rounded off with a quick counter attacking goal, finished off from 25 yards by the industrious Sam Hogarth. Quernmore pulled one back in the 72nd minute through Joe Yates, who, after a lofted ball over the top of the defense, ran in behind and lobbed the keeper.
