These fixtures were the last of this year but unfortunately only 1 game was played as teams found it a struggle for a team due to the time of year. The two league games, with Fulwood travelling to Moorlands and Loko travelling to Quernmore were called off. Two of the three Champions Cup fixtures were forfeited also, with Preston City Mission and Longton unable to get teams together. The only game to be played this weekend was the second leg of the Champions Cup fixture with Wray making the long journey down to Accrington.
Full Champions cup results will be down below, along with the teams who have qualified for the next round of the cup.
Weakened Wray lose to Accrington
Accrington 4 (5) – (6) 2 Wray
Paul Pountain 30, 32, 92, Liam Reynolds 55 // Graham Emmerson 75, George Ibbetson 85
Wray progressed to the next round of the cup, despite losing on Saturday after a real battle with an imposing St John’s side. With a lot of new faces in the line-up, Wray were on the back foot in the first half and Accrington took full advantage, player – manager Paul Pountain netting in the 30th and 32nd minute. Shortly into the second half, Accrington scored again, Liam Reynolds netting in the 55th minute. 3-0 to Accrington and made it 4-4 on aggregate – although they had the away goal advantage. Wray improved and got a goal of their own with debutant Graham Emerson firing home in the 55th minute, after linking with Mark Ellershaw. This goal meant it would be Wray winning the tie on aggregate – 5 – 4. An excellent second followed when Will Preece drove forward from centre-half, linked with debutant Richard Briggs, before crossing for George Ibbetson. 6-4 on aggregate. St John’s broke clear for a fourth right at the end of the game, Paul Pountain netting in the 92nd minute, grabbing his hattrick, but it was not enough for Accrington, Wray winning 6-5 on aggregate.
