In the penultimate week of the mens 5aside league we just had 2 games with Real VVV up against champions, Wray and Ingleton against Young Guns.

From the start of the game, Wray took control against a young VVV team.  As usual Wray had that balance of being well organised in defence and a real creative edge.  The goals were shared round with Mark Ellershaw getting 4, Steven Wright getting 3 and Harry Gorst and Martin Huddleston both getting a brace.  James Sutton scoring once in reply, but Wray were too good and finish their season unbeaten and only dropped points on one occasion.  Ingleton vs Young Guns started at a fast pace with 2 of the leagues form teams coming up against each other.  Only a few minutes in and Young Guns got their first goal with a clever turn and finish from Matt Dawson.  They quickly doubled their lead with Joel Law scoring a remarkable goal after beating two players and cutting inside to hit a riffled shot into the side netting.  Ingleton had chances in the first half but Luke Gorst saved anything that was thrown at him.  Young Guns were in clinical form with Joel especially on top form as he got a hat trick in the first half as Young Guns led 5 – 0 at the break.  Second half and Ingleton got an early goal as George Whitaker smashed the ball into the roof of the net.  But normal service resumed as Young Guns ran and ran and ended up winning 10 – 1 with Joel Law scoring 6, in what must have been one of the very best individual performances in the 5aside league over the 10 seasons the league has been running.

After the games Mick Lund came to speak to us.  He shared about a childhood story where he took a dislike to Scottish people following the antics of the Scotland fans when they beat England 3-1. He then shared how that all changed when in Scotland some years later, getting stuck at a bagpipe march, he realised the beauty of the bagpipe.  He then linked that to knowing Jesus, how people may dislike Him and try and avoid Him, but when they actually meet Jesus for themselves, they will realise how amazing He is as He changes them.

Real VVV 1 – 11 Wray

Ingleton 1 – 10 Young Guns
