SPORTSREACH 5ASIDE LEAGUE

21 Sep

Wednesday the 19th of September brought the second week of fixtures with 2 teams playing their first games of the season.  In the 8pm games we had new team Ingleton taking on Carnforth and Garstang against Roeburndale Rascals.

Carnforth set off strongly, full of confidence after winning their first game the previous week, but couldn’t find a way past the impressive Craig Perkins who was in goal for Ingleton.  After 10 minutes it was Ingleton who took the lead against the run of play.  Ingleton started to really grow in confidence and put Carnforth under more pressure.  At half time the score was 3 – 3 with little to choose between the teams.  Into the second half and Carnforth managed to get themselves 2 goals ahead with Callum Thompson getting his 5th goal of the game and 15th goal in 2 games!!!  Ingleton did manage to get a goal back and make it a tense finish, but Carnforth held out to take a 5 – 4 win.  In the other game Garstang were up against another very strong team in Roeburndale Rascals.  The Rascals played really well in the first half taking a 5 – 0 lead into half time.  Garstang improved after the break and Andrew Tissingh in particular was outstanding in net.  It was still 5 – 0 until the last 5 minutes, when the Rascals put gloss on their scoreline with 3 late goals.  James Lawson was the most clinical with 4 goals.  George Ibbetson also deserves mention, scoring with his very first touch of the game.

At 9pm Joe Kelsall from Chipping shared with us.  He asked us what things we put our faith in, and went on to explain how we trust so many different things in our lives.  He then looked at Hebrews 11 v 1 which says “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”  Joe explained to us that faith was being able to trust Jesus at His Word.  When Jesus said “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life”, we can have full confidence and trust Him to forgive us and change us, if we will turn our lives to Him.

In the late games Newbigginners were much improved against Wray and will soon be having much closer games, but unfortunately have been drawn against 2 of the best teams on their first two weeks.  Wray are so well organised and clinical in front of goal.  The first half was tight with Wray just scoring 3 goals but into the second half and Wray created more chances and were very clinical.  Newbigginners did get the final goal but with Mark Ellershaw, Steven Wright and Martin Huddleston sharing out the goals for Wray, it was very comfortable.  The other game was a cracker.  Quernmore had lots of experience and moved the ball around so slickly in the first half.  At half time Chipping were glad to only be 5 – 2 down, with Josh Akinson and Mick Lund getting Quernmores goals.  Into the second half and it was a complete reversal.  Chipping were all over Quernmore and only some great saves from Dave Airey in net for Quernmore, kept it close.  Chipping with a lot of pace and some great finishing from Jake Fawcett and Chris Dent, took the win 7 – 6 and will be a team to watch this winter as they all get used to playing with each other.

Results:

Carnforth 5 – 4 Ingleton

Garstang 0 – 8 Roeburndale Rascals

Quernmore 6 – 7 Chipping

Newbigginners 1 – 11 Wray
