SportsReach Football league results – 5th October

9 Oct

This weekend, another 3 tough and competitive games took place in the SportsReach Football league, with Lancaster making the trip to Fulwood, Great Ecc facing off against near neighbors Quernmore and unbeaten Moorlands traveled to Wray, whom themselves were looking to avoid a second successive defeat of the season.

Moorlands inflict another defeat on Wray

Wray 0 – 2 Moorlands

// O’Hawke 42, Dent 60

Moorlands traveled to Wray on Saturday, knowing a real test of their credentials was going to come in the game. Moorlands have had a fantastic start to the season, winning their first three games, but any thought of a title challenge couldn’t be considered until facing last seasons champions Wray. They overcame the test with flying colours, triumphing 2-0. Wray, struggling at the moment due to player availability, knew they would face a tough game. Moorlands opened the scoring in the 42nd minute, centre half Kevin O’Hawke netting from a free kick, giving Moorlands the lead at half time. Into the second half, striker Chris Dent, who has had a great start to the season, found a gap in the Wray defence to fire home in the 60th minute. The fixture list sends Wray to Great Eccleston next week and Wray will need to step up a gear for that, or their title challenge could be over before it has started.

Ever improving Fulwood triumph over Lancaster

Fulwood 3 – 1 Lancaster

Alexander 49, 80, Garratt 63 // Main 1

Fulwood and Lancaster faced off against each other this weekend, Lancaster hoping to follow on from their last game – a win over Quernmore, whilst Fulwood were wanting to keep their momentum going, following a victory of league champions Wray last week. However, Fulwood got of to a bad start as Lancaster took the lead inside of 30 seconds. A nice ball was floated into the back post and was finished off by Daniel Main. Lancaster played very well in the first half, but lost striker White to injury before half time, leaving them without an attacking outlet, which allowed Fulwood back into the game. It took them only four minutes to find a way back into the game, Alexander netting once again for Fulwood. In a back and forth game, Fulwood were beginning to have the better of it, Garratt putting Fulwood into the lead in the 63rd minute. The result was sealed by Alexander’s second goal of the game making it 3-1 overall and giving Fulwood all three points. Is a title challenge coming for Fulwood as well? Only time will tell!

Excellent Eccy grab victory

Quernmore 0 – 4 Great Ecc

// Clark 13, Greenhalgh 27, Ball 46, 88

Great Eccleston came into this local derby hopeful of getting a good result, to continue their winning start to the season. Great Ecc played some fantastic football in the first half, some of the best that has been seen in the league for some time according to Quernmore manager Mick Lund, bringing Great Ecc success in the first half. They netted on the 13th minute after a corner was blocked on the line, only for the ball to fall to Clark who slotted it home. Quernmore were struggling to contain Great Ecc, the midfield being run ragged and they didn’t register a shot on goal during the first half. Great Ecc however, did. Again from a corner, captain Greenhalgh netted to double their lead in the 27th minute. At half time, Quernmore made some tactical changes, going from a 3-5-2 to a 4-5-1, which did help strengthen them. However, Great Ecc quickly got a third goal in the game, striker Ball pouncing on the ball after it was spilled by the Quernmore keeper, to put it home within a minute of the restart. However, this spurred Quernmore on and they began to improve, the star performance of the game coming from keeper Thornton, making save after unbelievable save, leaving the players in shock and awe! Two of his most notable saves on the day was a volley fired in low and hard from a Quernmore, springing to his right to make a fantastic save, whilst another great stop came from a penalty, diving low to his right again to make the save. Quernmore continued to battle and showed a great spirit, having a few more chances in the second half, but couldn’t quite manage to get the ball into the net! However, Great Ecc completed their scoring, Ball netting again in the 88th minute to complete the result! Quernmore continue to show good heart and battle but are just unable to turn that into results at the moment, whilst if Great Ecc continue to play in the way and style they did on Saturday, the rest of the league could be in bother!
