This weekend, only two games took place in the SportsReach football league, with Lancaster making the short trip to Wray and Fulwood travelling up to Loko.
Goodley helps Wray to draw
Wray 2 – 2 Lancaster
Goodley 66, 77 // Connerton 51, Sudell 86
Wray’s new striker Warren Goodley marked his first start with two goals against his old club Lancaster in a typical tussle of a game. Both sides were again under pressure with selection but all the players who took part gave their all in a game that neither side managed to dominate at any time. Will Preece proved to be Wray’s key player and his direct play on the left wing proved to be a real problem for the visitors to deal with. There was not much to write about the first half, but after the break, Lancaster’s Phil Connerton lit up the game by crashing home a free-kick from 20 yards. But Wray’s battling spirit came through and Preece worked his way into the box and found Goodley, whose shot was just powerful enough to find the corner. Wray were building up some momentum and they took the lead when Preece’s wonderful cross was met with a fantastic header by Goodley that gave the keeper no chance. Wray looked set for a valuable win, but, after a corner wasn’t cleared, Jonny Sudell, on his return from a long-term injury, smashed the ball home to level the game at 2-2 with four minutes to go. There was still time for Wray to win it and Matt Dawson sent a diving header just wide before, with almost the last kick of the match, Preece fired a shot off the post to leave the game all square. While perhaps disappointed not to have won all three points, Wray can feel pleased to have played their part in an enjoyable game.
Fulwood continue good start
Loko 1 – 3 Fulwood
65 // McLoughlin 66, Dean 69, Thomas 77
Fulwood and Loko played out an exciting game over the weekend, with four goals being shared within 12 second half minutes. Firstly, in an eventful 12 minute second half period, Loko struck first, finding the net in the 65th minute. Following that, Fulwood equalized almost immediately, McLoughlin netting in the 66th minute. 3 minutes later, Fulwood found their second goal and the third goal of the game, Luke Dean netting in the 69th minute. 3 goals within 4 minutes of each other. The next goal in the game was going to be crucial and seal a result for one team. Unfortunately for Loko, it was Fulwood who netted the next goal, Thomas netting in the 77th minute to ensure victory for Fulwood and put them level on points with Great Ecc and Moorlands.
