This weekend, we only had one game take place in the SportsReach Football League, with Wray making the short trip to Carnforth to face Loko. The games between Great Ecc vs. Fulwood and Quernmore vs. Moorlands were called off unfortunately.
Loko 3 – 2 Wray
Richardson 37, Edmondson 40, Iddon 64 // Lawson 22, Park 80
The game started off very evenly, with both sides looking to score an early goal in their pursuit of victory. Wray indeed found the breakthrough not long into the game, the returning James Lawson firing home with a smart finish to give Wray the lead. Loko were playing well in this game, however and soon were knocking on the door of Wray’s defence, trying to find the equaliser. A man of the match performance from Joe Park at right back was helping to keep Loko out, but soon Loko found their way back into the game. In the 37th minute, Steven Richardson got hold of the ball and finished cleverly to bring Loko level and minutes later, Wray were stung again as Adan Edmondson finished nicely in the 40th minute to give Loko a quick fire lead and shock Wray. Half time came and Wray needed to regroup and recover from those two late goals before half time. Moving into the second half and it was a quiet half, with neither side finding a way through. The next goal in this game would be vital. If Loko got it, it would make the game very difficult for Wray to win, whilst a goal for Wray would leave the game all to play for. We soon found out the answer as Loko scored again in the 64th minute. A free kick from Rob Iddon evaded everyone and found it’s way into the back of the Wray net, giving Loko a vital two goal cushion. However, Wray continued to battle hard to try and find a way back into the game, with the whole team working very hard to try and find a way through. Wray moved motm Joseph Park up into RM to give him a run at the Loko and that soon paid dividends as he netted for Wray in the 80th minute. Game on! The last 10 minutes were frantic but Wray couldn’t find the third goal they needed for the draw and Loko ran out 3-2 winners.
This weekend we have the return of the cup, with Quernmore hosting Accrington and Wray facing Moorlands in group A, whilst Loko face Fulwood and Crossgate host Great Ecc in group B. Some fascinating games to take place!
