Our second game on the same day saw us play St Albain, the village team where we are staying. A small crowd turned out to watch the game including the local Mayor! Our team was boosted by the arrival of Mama Sue and Jen and Grace. The late afternoon sun was still shining down on us and the pitch was rather like a sun trap. We played three lots of 30 minutes, giving time for much needed water breaks. After the game John shared a powerful message and we gave out the literature and extended an invitation for the players and fans to come up the hill to the Chateau and there we engaged in conversation with them and served them drinks and snacks and even had the odd game of chess!
A pattern seems to be developing with many of our games in that we play very well but don’t seem to be able to get the goals that our play deserves and then get over run by strong and quick play by our opponents. Sam Dennis scored our goal with a strong header from a free kick launched into the box and was unfortunate to see another great header from a corner bounce up over the bar when it deserved to hit the back of the net.
