SPORTSREACH MENS 5ASIDE LEAGUE

15 Dec

This was the last week of fixtures before we broke up for Christmas and it produced some interesting ties.  A very inform Chipping team were looking to make it 4 wins in a row against Crown Lane, who had lost there first game of the season, last time out.  Chipping started very strongly and were ahead early on and looked like blowing Crown Lane away, only for Crown Lane to manage to dig deep and level things up 3 – 3 at half time.  As the second half went on, it was edgy and tight and Crown Lane will be feeling extremely fortunate to come away with a narrow win.  Real VVV took an early lead against Carnforth, but Carnforth who were feeling confident after winning last week, started to create chances and were much more clinical in front of goal.  Leading 4 – 1 at half time, Carnforth got caught out early in the second half as  VVV struck, to bring the score back to 4 – 2.  Carnforth were thankful to Thomas Salmon who make some key saves, when VVV were looking to get back into the game.  Carnforth managed to compose themselves and pull away, to record back to back wins for the first time in their history!

At 9pm Martin Huddleston shared with us about his story.  It was really encouraging to hear how God had and is working in his life and he told us how going to Church and believing things from the Bible isn’t enough, but that God wants us to repent (turn away from our own selfish ways and follow Gods ways) and live for Him.

In the late games unfortunately Galgate couldn’t get a team together, so Ingleton took the points.  In the other late game there was a potential banana skin for top of the table Wray, as they took on Young Guns.  Wray played one of the best games I have seen for a while as they controlled the game from start to finish and only a very good strike from a tight angle from Will Preece, stopped them from getting a clean sheet.

There is a 2 week break now, but with the top two teams set to face each other on the 3rd January, some of the lads might be avoiding seconds at Christmas, if they want to get their hands on the 5aside trophy at the end of the season!

Results:

Chipping 4 – 5 Crown Lane

Real VVV 2 – 8 Carnforth

Ingleton 4 – 0 Galgate (Galgate forfeited game)

Young Guns 1 – 8 Wray
